Developing the Istanbul Heritage Website Identity
The identity of Istanbul Heritage was not created at once. It evolved gradually alongside the website’s content, vision, and cultural focus. Each stage reflected a different perspective, beginning with inspiration drawn from Ottoman heritage, continuing through the connection between past and present, and ultimately developing into a contemporary digital identity that looks toward the future while remaining rooted in its historical foundations.

AS the project evolved and its vision matured, its identity became simpler and more flexible, focusing on symbolic elements capable of functioning effectively across modern digital platforms. A visual style was adopted—characterized by clarity, elegance, and simplicity—that conveys continuity, creativity, and independence, while remaining rooted in the cultural origins from which it emerges

As content expanded and its subject matter diversified, the visual identity shifted toward a style that blends historical authenticity with the demands of the digital age.
This phase sought to maintain a connection to cultural heritage while presenting it in a more organized and clear format—one that reflects a bridge between the past and the present.

The site’s initial identity was rooted in the cultural and historical heritage of Istanbul; its visual elements reflected features of the traditional arts and ornamentation that flourished during the Ottoman era. At that time, the designs were characterized by an abundance of decorative detail, a focus on artistic calligraphy, and the highlighting of historical landmarks that have shaped the city’s identity
over the centuries.
The website’s visual identity was not a project designed all at once; rather,
it was an evolving journey that unfolded in successive stages,
each reflecting the nature of the content and the vision the site embraced at the time.
From drawing inspiration from Ottoman heritage and building a bridge between the past and the present,
to adopting a simpler, future-ready identity, the goal remained constant: to preserve authenticity while keeping pace with progress.
